Briefly describe your tentative APP or how you think you might incorporate media literacy into the work that you do with teachers and/or students.
Students will be giving a presentation decoding media about health topics that influence their lives. They will be exploring how media affects their lives -both positive and negative. Topics could include nutrition, anti-smoking, and preventable diseases.
Tentative Title: Do Advertisements Affect Our Health?
Target Audience: 6th grade students

Some tentative activities:
-Lesson on what media is
-Select commercials to demonstrate decoding (Carrot, Eat 'em Like Junk Food Commercial), etc.
-Do some research about commercials that target children.
-Students brainstorm a list of commercials that affects them-positively or negatively. We will try to find those commercials and make them available to the kids.
-look at fast food commercials, New York State anti-smoking commercials, Fitness Campaigns (NFL Play 60)
Assessment/Evaluation (how will you know your APP works to meet your goals?):
-4 minute presentation given by students. The expectation will be that peers will be able to predict the decoding of the media. Audience will fill out a Key Questioon Form (LMS designs). Then everyone will discuss as a group.
